On May 24, 2017, 25-year-old Shamar Lindsay was fatally shot while standing in the 1200 block of Elm Street in Wilmington, Delaware. The assailant, identified as 26-year-old Tariq Taylor from Elsmere, approached Lindsay and opened fire. Responding officers apprehended Taylor as he attempted to flee the scene, discovering a loaded .40-caliber Glock handgun discarded in a trashcan along his escape route.
