David Richardson, a 28-year-old Black man known to his friends as "Envy" or "E," was killed in Denver, Colorado, in the summer of 2024. His life was cut short by gun violence on August 15, leaving behind family and friends who remembered him.
On that Thursday, Richardson was found dead in an alley located in the 1200 block between North Verbena Street and North Wabash Street in the city's East Colfax neighborhood.
An investigation by the Denver Police Department determined that he had died from a gunshot wound. Authorities also concluded that Richardson had been shot at a different, unknown location before his body was moved and left in the alley where he was discovered.
Police asked the public for information that could help solve the homicide, and the investigation soon focused on a suspect. In October 2024, authorities arrested 27-year-old Taleur Davis in connection with Richardson's death. Davis was initially charged with first-degree murder, tampering with a deceased human body, and tampering with physical evidence. Court records showed that Davis had prior convictions from 2015 for burglary and automotive trespass.
The case against Davis proceeded through the justice system over the following year. In October 2025, Taleur Davis pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder for killing David Richardson. On December 1, 2025, a judge sentenced Davis, then 28, to 40 years in prison, bringing the case to a legal conclusion as of that month.
