In the quiet suburbs of northeast Denver, the evening of September 25, 2016, was shattered by a tragic event that would forever alter the lives of a local family. Jose Sanchez Jaime, a 34-year-old male, was found deceased in the driveway of his residence. The initial call to law enforcement came in at approximately 6:45 p.m., leading officers to the 16100 block of East Randolph Avenue, where they discovered Mr. Sanchez Jaime's body.
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner would later confirm that he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The horror of the incident was compounded by the fact that it unfolded at the family home, a place that should have been a sanctuary. Present in the house at the time were the four children of Jose Sanchez Jaime and his ex-wife, Roxanne Sanchez-Jaime. One of the children, a teenager, reportedly witnessed the fatal shooting of their father during a dispute. The responding officers had to forcibly enter the home, where they found Roxanne Sanchez-Jaime inside.
In the wake of the shooting, Roxanne Sanchez-Jaime, then 33 years old, was taken into custody. The investigation led by the Denver Police Department swiftly identified her as the primary suspect. Subsequently, the Denver District Attorney's Office formally charged her with first-degree murder and four counts of child abuse. Following her arrest, she was held without bond. The charges alleged that she shot and killed her husband in the home they shared with their children, turning a domestic dispute into a fatal encounter.
