On a Thursday afternoon in January, the life of 18-year-old Tavyon M. Sykes, a Black male from Greenwood, Delaware, was cut short by gunfire. On January 25, 2018, at approximately 1:41 p.m., events unfolded at the intersection of Newton Road and Adams Road in Bridgeville that would end in tragedy. Shortly after the shooting, Sykes was driven in a private vehicle to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. Despite the swift transport, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
