Emoni Rivers-Boyd was spending a Saturday night with friends when the quiet in a Newport apartment shattered. She was a 15-year-old Black/African American girl from Wilmington. Shortly before 10 p.m. on February 15, 2020, police were called to the unit block of Bennett Court in the Newport Terrace Apartments. Inside, troopers found Emoni fatally shot; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
