Daniel Ariel Rosales, a 17-year-old known to some as Danny, was a young man who gave haircuts out of a garage in his Plano, Texas, neighborhood. On a gun violence memorial page, friends remembered him with love, leaving messages like, “I MISS U SO MUCH BLEEDA,” and “fly high brudda.”

The evening of October 13, 2026, ended Daniel’s life in an alleyway behind a row of homes. Around 5:30 p.m., Plano Police and Fire-Rescue responded to a 911 call in the 900 block of Middle Cove Drive. The caller, Daniel’s cousin, reported that his cousin had been shot and was “bleeding out.” When first responders arrived, they found Daniel with a gunshot wound. Despite their life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The intersection of Branch Hollow and Middle Cove Drive was closed for hours as detectives from the Crimes Against Persons Unit began their investigation.

According to the arrest affidavit, Daniel had gone to the alley to sell a firearm, and he had asked his cousin to come with him for support. They met two other 17-year-olds, Chauncey Kentrell Harris and Na'Treveon Deon Ward. Investigators later determined the meeting was a setup for a robbery, with the suspects planning to use fake money. As Daniel was counting the cash from the transaction, Harris allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot him.

After the shooting, Harris’s gun reportedly malfunctioned. Daniel’s cousin tried to grab and restrain Harris, who then struck him in the head with the firearm. During the struggle, Harris yelled for Ward to grab the gun that Daniel had been selling. Ward snatched the weapon, and both he and Harris fled the scene in a vehicle.

Detectives used surveillance footage from a nearby home to identify the suspects' vehicle. Information from Daniel's cousin, who knew one of the suspects by the name "Tre," led police to Na'Treveon Ward. Police began surveillance on Ward's neighborhood and executed a search warrant on October 14. During the investigation, police learned from a relative of Ward that Harris's mother had spoken about something happening over a gun sale with fake money that resulted in someone being shot.

When investigators questioned Chauncey Harris, he initially claimed he shot Daniel in self-defense, believing Daniel was about to pull a gun on him. However, when pressed for details, he admitted his story wasn't true and confessed that after he shot Daniel, he and Ward took Daniel’s gun and fled together.

On October 15, 2026, just two days after the shooting, the Plano Police Department arrested both Chauncey Harris, of Little Elm, and Na'Treveon Ward, of Plano. They were both charged with capital murder and booked into the Plano City Jail. A reporter who visited Daniel’s home shortly after the arrests noted that his family was not ready to speak with the media at that time.

The case against Chauncey Harris and Na'Treveon Ward is ongoing in Collin County. As of the initial reports in October 2026, the investigation was continuing.
