Lauchnor, an 89-year-old female, died on Sunday, July 17, 2022, not from natural causes, but at the hands of her husband in a heart-wrenching murder-suicide. She and her husband of 71 years, Leonard L. Lauchnor, were found deceased in their home on Coal Street.
The grim discovery was made on that Sunday morning when state police were called to the residence.
Inside, they found both Josephine and her 91-year-old husband in their bedroom. An investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police from the Lehighton barracks swiftly determined the sequence of events. Leonard Lauchnor shot his wife before turning the weapon on himself.
