In the winter of 2014, the life of 40-year-old Amy Suehr-Gorsuch was tragically cut short in what police determined to be a murder-suicide. On the morning of January 15th, Amy's father grew concerned when she did not return to his home, where she and her three young daughters had been living. She had gone to her estranged husband's residence in Crafton, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the early hours of the morning.
After taking his granddaughters to school, her father went to the home on Dinsmore Avenue to check on her. It was there that he made the devastating discovery of his daughter and her 46-year-old husband, Richard Gorsuch, both deceased inside.
Authorities from the Allegheny County Police Department were called to the scene at approximately 8:15 a.m. and found that both Amy and Richard Gorsuch had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The investigation concluded that Richard Gorsuch had shot and killed his estranged wife before turning the gun on himself. The couple had been married for about a decade and had three daughters together, ranging in age from 8 to 11 at the time. They had been separated for about six months prior to the incident, with Amy and the children residing with her father.
Amy was remembered as a beloved employee at Pittsburgh Mercy Health System, where she worked as a supervisor of Community Employment in Mercy Intellectual Disabilities Services. Her colleagues recalled her as a dedicated and passionate individual who took great pride in helping others, particularly in finding employment for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Friends and family remembered her infectious smile and her love for her three children. The tragic event left the community in shock and mourning for the three young girls who were suddenly left without either of their parents.
