Thomas Gilbert, a 32-year-old Black male from the Dover area, was shot multiple times just before dawn on July 6, 2020. Around 2:48 a.m., Dover police were called to reports of gunfire in a vacant lot in the 100 block of South New Street. Officers found the 32-year-old suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene, the quiet of the early morning broken by the arrival of patrol cars and crime scene lights that spilled across the empty lot.
