On the evening of April 12, 2021, in Dover, Delaware, 19-year-old African American male Dazhmier Brooks was fatally shot in the chest while in the 400 block of Sussex Avenue. The Dover Police Department responded to reports of gunfire around 9:16 p.m. and arrived to find the young man unresponsive. Officers administered immediate aid until emergency medical personnel arrived and transported Brooks to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.
