On the evening of April 12, 2021, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Dover police responded to reports of a shooting in the 400 block of Sussex Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 19-year-old Dazhmier Kyair Brooks unresponsive, having suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers administered aid until medical personnel arrived and transported Brooks to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
