Kevin Thompson, 32, a Black/African American male from Wilmington, Delaware, was shot on the evening of July 26, 2021, in the 600 block of North Monroe Street. Wilmington police were called to the area at about 7:06 p.m. after gunfire broke out, and when officers arrived they found Thompson suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken from the scene to a hospital, but the injuries were too severe, and he later died.
The shooting did not leave only one person wounded.
Police also reported that a 33-year-old male was shot in the same incident and arrived at the hospital in stable condition. The available reports do not describe what led up to the gunfire, whether Thompson was specifically targeted, or whether the second wounded man was with him, nearby, or otherwise connected to the circumstances of the attack.
In the days after the shooting, Wilmington police identified Thompson as the man who had died. His obituary identified him as Kevin Kennedy Thompson, born September 8, 1988, in Wilmington. It described him as someone educated in the Christina School System, a man who loved people and children, enjoyed cooking, joked with those around him, and was remembered by family as giving and deeply connected to his loved ones. He left behind his wife, children, stepchildren, mother, siblings, relatives, and friends.
At the time of the police notice, the case remained under investigation. Authorities asked anyone with information to contact Detective Brandon Mosley of the Wilmington Police Department or Delaware Crime Stoppers. The online sources reviewed did not identify any suspect or suspects, and they did not report any arrest, charges, trial, plea, or conviction connected specifically to Thompson’s killing.
