Tracey Dianne Walls, a 54-year-old White/Caucasian female from Georgetown, Delaware, died on the evening of May 17, 2022, after a shooting inside a residence on the 22000 block of Deep Branch Road. Delaware State Police said troopers were called to the home at about 6:07 p.m. for a report that a woman had been shot. When they arrived, they found Tracey inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound.
She did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting unfolded inside a family home, where investigators said 26-year-old Jordan Walls of Georgetown had been showing Tracey a firearm. Police reported that a gunshot was fired during that encounter, and troopers recovered a 20-gauge shotgun at the scene. Later reporting described Jordan as Tracey’s son and said he told police the shooting was accidental. According to those accounts, he said he had been showing her work done on the shotgun when it discharged and struck her.
Tracey’s obituary described her as a Georgetown resident who had worked in several fields, including home health care, plumbing, banking, and for the State of Delaware, most recently with the Woodbridge School District. She was remembered as a devoted mother, daughter, and “bonus mom,” and as someone who loved the beach, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.
Jordan Walls was taken into custody without incident after the shooting and transported to Delaware State Police Troop 4. Authorities charged him with felony manslaughter and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $120,000 cash bond.
