Michael Bowles, a 52-year-old African American male from Wilmington, Delaware, was killed on November 18, 2022, after a shooting in the city's Eastlawn neighborhood. The violence unfolded late that Friday afternoon, around 5:10 p.m., when Wilmington police were called to the 200 block of Cityview Avenue for a reported shooting.
When officers arrived, they found Bowles suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was still alive when first responders reached him, and he was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment. Despite those efforts, he died from his injuries.
Police later identified the suspected shooter as 46-year-old Benja Daniels. Daniels was found dead at the scene from what authorities described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Because Daniels died at the scene, there were no reported arrests in the case, and the matter was described by police as an apparent murder-suicide.
Investigators said the incident was believed to have been domestic in nature. Public reports did not describe a trial, conviction, or later prosecution, as the named suspect was deceased before any arrest or court proceedings could occur.
