On July 18, 2018, Sean Spencer, a 50-year-old resident of Wilmington, Delaware, was fatally shot while attempting to protect his son from an armed assailant. The incident occurred around 2:50 a.m. outside their home on the 800 block of West 5th Street. Spencer's son was confronted by a masked gunman in the parking lot as he was leaving for work.
