Kwamir Wise, a 19-year-old Black / African American male from Wilmington, Delaware, was caught in gunfire on the night of September 4, 2024, in the 700 block of East 22nd Street. Wilmington police said officers found him suffering from gunshot wounds at about 10:28 p.m. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, but the injuries proved fatal, and authorities later announced that he had died from the shooting.
In the days after the violence, his name was released publicly, and his
death became part of Wilmington's continuing struggle with gun violence. Funeral information for Wise said he died unexpectedly on September 4, 2024, and that his family chose to hold burial services privately on September 11. Public reports did not describe the moments leading up to the shooting in detail, and no clear motive was immediately released.
The investigation moved forward through Wilmington Police detectives, who eventually identified 19-year-old Amir Henry as the suspected gunman. Nearly two months after Wise was shot, police located Henry on November 1, 2024, in the unit block of Bedford Drive and arrested him without incident. He was charged with First Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon. After arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Henry was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $190,000 cash-only bail.
The case later widened beyond a single arrest. In December 2024, the Delaware Department of Justice announced a sweeping indictment against 10 alleged members of the Wilmington-area gang Exit 4, also known as “The Mag” and “Magboyz.” Prosecutors said the indictment grew out of a years-long investigation by the Delaware DOJ, Wilmington Police, New Castle County Police, Delaware State Police, and the Delaware Department of Correction. Authorities alleged that members of Exit 4 committed crimes between January 2020 and December 2024, including the murders of Latahesia Hill, Khalil Ameer-Bey, and Kwamir Wise, along with multiple attempted murders and other offenses.
In that indictment, Amir Henry was listed among the defendants and was charged with Murder First Degree, Illegal Gang Participation, two counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, and Receiving a Stolen Firearm. Other defendants in the broader Exit 4 case faced combinations of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy, firearms, robbery, and gang-participation charges. The public announcements available online did not report a conviction or trial outcome for Henry in Wise's death, so the case appears to have moved from the initial homicide arrest into the larger gang prosecution framework.
