On February 19, 2011, 19-year-old Tyler Michael Seaney was fatally shot in the neck by his friend, Luke Bryant, in Bryant's apartment in Knox, Maine. The incident occurred during what was described as horseplay between the two friends, who had a history of pointing and dry-firing guns at each other as part of a "scare game." On this occasion, Bryant aimed a shotgun at Seaney, believing it to be unloaded, and pulled the trigger, resulting in Seaney's immediate death.
