Murdered

On October 1, 1999, in Hartland, Maine, 62-year-old Gene Gogan was shot three times in the head while he slept in his home. His wife of 37 years, Vella Gogan, then dismembered his body into 17 pieces, burying them in various locations near his hunting camp in Mayfield. After three days, she confided in her sister, who persuaded her to report the incident to the police. A six-day search ensued, during which 15 of the 17 body parts were recovered; the thighs were never located.
