On May 24, 2011, in Skowhegan, Maine, 75-year-old Marie Flewellen was fatally shot by her husband, 86-year-old Barbour Flewellen, who then took his own life. The incident was reported to authorities when Barbour called 911, stating, "This was a double mercy killing," before a gunshot was heard.
