On July 30, 2017, 20-year-old Chance Edward Gallant of Sebago, Maine, was fatally shot in a tragic accident at a gravel pit off Carl Burnell Road in Baldwin. Gallant, an aspiring firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT), was target shooting with five friends when a rifle jammed.
