In a tragic turn of events on a September evening in Detroit, a mother's protective instincts led to her untimely death. Tasneen Sherrod, a 42-year-old woman, was fatally shot on September 4, 2024, while attempting to intervene in a dispute involving her teenage son. The incident unfolded in the area of Greiner and Runyon streets, where Sherrod stepped in to de-escalate a confrontation between her 15-year-old son and another teenager.
The altercation escalated tragically when the other
teen, identified as 15-year-old Anthony Deshawn Sneed, allegedly took a handgun from Sherrod's son during the fight. It was at this point that Sneed is accused of opening fire, striking both Tasneen Sherrod and her son. Sherrod succumbed to her injuries, while her son was left in critical condition. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the suspect fled the scene.
The following day, Anthony Deshawn Sneed turned himself in to the authorities. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office subsequently charged the Clinton Township teen as an adult with a string of serious offenses, including felony murder, second-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, and armed robbery, in addition to multiple firearm charges. Prosecutors highlighted the suspect's prior criminal history, which includes a conviction for carrying a firearm and a recent charge for a carjacking at gunpoint, as reasons for him being considered a danger to the community.
