Sharnita Jones, a 20-year-old woman from Detroit, Michigan, was fatally wounded on July 4, 2010, while attending a block party. The incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. on the 700 block of Philadelphia Street, near the Lodge Freeway. The block party, intended as a festive celebration, ended in tragedy when gunfire broke out, striking Sharnita. She succumbed to her injuries, becoming yet another victim in the city's ongoing struggle with violent crime.
