On October 25, 2023, Bryan MacFarlane, 41, of South China, Maine, was among the 18 victims of a mass shooting in Lewiston. He was attending a cornhole tournament at Schemengees Bar & Grille, an event organized by the American Deaf Cornhole group, when the tragedy occurred. MacFarlane was one of four deaf individuals killed during the attack.
