Fourteen-year-old Aaron Jacob Young, a White male, was a freshman at Winthrop High School known for being an excellent student with a love for golf, bowling, and playing video games with his friends. He was a kind and thoughtful boy, often concerned about the happiness of others. His gentle heart and caring nature were defining characteristics that made him stand out.
Aaron looked up to his hero, his father, William Arthur Young, and the two were inseparable.
On the evening of October 25, 2023, Aaron and his father were at the Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine. Aaron, an avid bowler, was there for his youth bowling league. It was during this event that a gunman opened fire, tragically taking the lives of both Aaron and his father, along with sixteen other people in the deadliest mass shooting in Maine's history.
The perpetrator of this senseless act of violence was identified as 40-year-old Robert Card. Following the shootings at the bowling alley and a second location, a massive manhunt was launched to find him. Two days later, on October 27, Card was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a tractor-trailer near a recycling center where he had previously worked.
