In the late summer of 2014, the life of 21-year-old Miguel Davalos, a Hispanic male, was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting west of Blackfoot, Idaho. On the evening of Monday, August 18, 2014, Bingham County sheriff's deputies were dispatched around 8 p.m. to a residence on West Taber Road following a report of a man with a gunshot wound. Upon their arrival, they discovered Davalos, who had succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The Bingham County Sheriff's Office promptly
launched a homicide investigation into the death. For nearly a year, detectives from the sheriff's office and the Blackfoot Police Department dedicated hundreds of hours to unraveling the case. Their persistent investigation involved numerous interviews, the pursuit of various leads, and meticulous evidence gathering. This extensive effort was conducted in close collaboration with the prosecutor's office to build a case against the individual believed to be responsible for Davalos's death.
Their investigation culminated in the identification of a suspect, Daniel Olvera Magana, who was 55 years old at the time. Authorities issued a substantial $1 million arrest warrant for Magana, who also went by the name Daniel Magana Olvera. The charges filed against him were severe, including second-degree murder, aggravated battery, and the unlawful discharge of a firearm into an inhabited dwelling. It was reported that authorities believed Magana had fled to Mexico. Efforts were initiated to work with U.S. federal agencies and the Mexican Consulate to locate and extradite him to face the charges.
