The quiet Sunday morning of September 25, 1904, in Blackfoot, Idaho, was shattered by the news of Bingham County Deputy Sheriff Elbert Percey Sweet's murder. Sweet, a 54-year-old respected lawman with twelve years of experience, was attempting to apprehend two individuals suspected of stealing horses when he was fatally shot.
