On the night of February 28, 2025, the flashing hazard lights of a white 2008 Toyota Camry on the shoulder of Interstate 15 drew the attention of passing Idaho State Police troopers. It was approximately 10:30 p.m. near milepost 85 in Bingham County when they pulled over to offer assistance. Inside the vehicle, they discovered the driver, 27-year-old Hispanic male Alexander Jose Duran Pirela of Mapleton, Utah, deceased.
The subsequent investigation by the Bingham County Coroner's Office
quickly determined that this was no accident. An autopsy revealed that Duran Pirela had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was officially ruled a homicide. Born on January 3, 1998, in Venezuela, Alexander was remembered by his family as a noble, kind, and affectionate person who valued family, love, and respect. His family, including his parents Angelica Pirela and Alexander Duran, and his son Alex Manuel, expressed their profound grief.
As of the latest reports, the investigation into the murder of Alexander Jose Duran Pirela is active and ongoing. Idaho State Police detectives have been pursuing numerous tips and leads from the public. Authorities have urged anyone who might have been traveling on I-15 on the evening of February 28th and witnessed the parked Toyota Camry, any other vehicles stopped nearby, or any suspicious activity to come forward.
