In the early hours of January 6, 2017, Boise Police responded to a shooting at the Park Village Apartments. They arrived to find 20-year-old Ryan Harrison Banks fatally wounded. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation quickly led to the arrest of 30-year-old Adam Bodenbach, a resident of the same apartment complex. According to witness accounts and Bodenbach's own admission, the shooting stemmed from an altercation between the two men.
