In the early morning hours of July 5, 2023, the life of 23-year-old Samuel Lozado, a Hispanic male, was cut short in the parking lot of a resort in Bartlett, New Hampshire. An autopsy would later confirm that he died from a gunshot wound to the neck, and his death was ruled a homicide. The incident also left another man, 24-year-old Jason Sanchez, with a nonfatal gunshot wound.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that both Lozado and Sanchez were present at 25 Nordic Wilderness
Road and that the two men were acquainted. A confrontation between them escalated, resulting in both men discharging firearms. Lozado was discovered in the parking lot, having sustained a fatal injury. About a mile and a half away, Sanchez sought medical help for his own gunshot wound.
Following a thorough investigation, the New Hampshire Department of Justice concluded that Jason Sanchez shot and killed Samuel Lozado during the altercation. It was determined that both men were armed with pistols and shot each other. Sanchez claimed that he acted in self-defense.
Ultimately, the Attorney General's office announced that no charges would be filed against Jason Sanchez in connection with Lozado's death. The official report stated that, based on the evidence gathered, the state could not disprove Sanchez's claim of self-defense beyond a reasonable doubt. The case was closed without any arrests made for the death of Samuel Lozado.
