On a Tuesday afternoon, October 13, 2020, the life of 19-year-old Deshaun Dure, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Providence, Rhode Island. The incident unfolded around 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Rhode Island School for the Deaf, located in the Wanskuck neighborhood. Dure was inside a white SUV with three other people when the vehicle was sprayed with bullets.
The hail of gunfire left Dure with critical injuries.
He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, but sadly, he was pronounced dead later that evening. Two other occupants of the SUV, identified as 19-year-old Omotayo Cole Adedeji and 20-year-old Aaron Gomes, were also wounded in the attack but survived their injuries. A fourth individual in the vehicle managed to escape unharmed and drove the victims to the hospital.
Authorities believe the shooting was a targeted attack, although a specific motive has not been publicly disclosed. The investigation into the homicide is still active, and as of the latest available information, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the shooting. The case remains an open investigation by the Providence Police Department.
