Jhensen Baldayac, a 33-year-old male from Providence, Rhode Island, was fatally wounded in a triple shooting on June Street on August 3, 2023. He succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023. The incident, which left two other individuals with severe injuries, unfolded in the city's Chad Brown neighborhood. Detectives at the scene focused their investigation around a picnic table where a backpack and shoes were left behind.
A parked vehicle with a shattered window was also part of the scene, and a black SUV was towed away.
Following what police described as a tireless investigation, authorities apprehended a suspect in May 2024. Nathan Rodrigues, 22 years old at the time of his arrest, was taken into custody in connection with the drive-by shooting. The investigation was led by Detectives Joseph Nezier and Alicia Hersperger with oversight from Sergeant Andres Perez.
Rodrigues has been charged with the murder of Jhensen Baldayac. In addition to the murder charge, he faces two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy, and other firearm-related charges. The assault charges stem from the injuries sustained by the other two victims in the shooting. Rodrigues was scheduled to appear in Providence District Court following his arrest.
