On the evening of January 22, 2018, the sound of gunshots broke the quiet on Dexter Street in Providence, Rhode Island. When police arrived, they found 22-year-old Jamal Contreras, a Black/African American male, inside a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, January 23, 2018.
