On May 1, 2017, 36-year-old Brett Alan Thooft was fatally shot in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The incident occurred in the apartment of 45-year-old Ronald Douglas Cook, located in an industrial area of the city. Authorities reported that the two men, who were acquaintances, engaged in a physical altercation on April 30, 2017. During the confrontation, Cook shot Thooft in the head and chest with a handgun.
