On February 27, 2019, 20-year-old Michael Christopher Mayweather was found deceased outside a residence at 314 E. Adams Street in Rapid City, South Dakota. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Initially, the Rapid City Police Department (RCPD) treated the case as a homicide investigation due to the absence of a firearm near the body and the residence's known association with drug activity.
