On January 17, 2020, a confrontation between two men escalated into a fatal shooting inside an apartment in central Sioux Falls, South Dakota. During the altercation, one man drew a handgun and shot 27-year-old Dakota Sun Bear Heels twice. He was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a week later, on January 24.
