In the early morning hours of September 10, 2022, the life of 21-year-old Kara Lynn Greger, a White/Caucasian female, was tragically cut short in Harrisburg, South Dakota. Authorities from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a gunshot just after 1:00 AM. Upon their arrival at the scene, they discovered Kara deceased.
Kara, who was born on November 10, 2000, was originally from Lake Andes, South Dakota. She had graduated from Wagner Community School in 2019.
Described as a vibrant and active member of her community, she was known for her volunteer work with various tribal and local activities. In 2018, her high school honored her as the Homecoming Queen for Andes Central, and she was also crowned Miss Fish Days Queen. At the time of her death, she was employed at the Lake Andes Carnegie Public Library, Knotheads Bar & Grill, and the Lake Andes Gus Stop.
The investigation into Kara's death was immediately launched by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. While authorities have stated that they believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public, the case remains an open and active investigation. As of late 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with her death, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Her family and community continue to await answers and seek justice for her untimely death.
