In the quiet, early morning hours of September 17, 2015, a fire engulfed the rural Platte, South Dakota home of Nicole and Scott Westerhuis. The flames illuminated a horrific tragedy that would soon grip the small community. Inside the inferno, firefighters would discover the remains of 41-year-old Nicole Westerhuis, a White female, her husband Scott, and their four children: Kailey, Jaeci, Connor, and Michael.
