On September 17, 2015, in Platte, South Dakota, Nicole Westerhuis, 41, was found dead alongside her husband, Scott Westerhuis, and their four children in their family home, which had been set on fire. Authorities determined that Scott Westerhuis had fatally shot his wife and children before setting the house ablaze and taking his own life.
