On the morning of May 9, 2024, in Huron, South Dakota, 41-year-old Nichole "Nikki" Klich, a White/Caucasian female, was fatally shot. The incident prompted an investigation by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the Huron Police Department. On the day of the shooting, law enforcement asked residents of the Colonial Apartments, in the area of 10th Street and Minnesota Avenue S.W., to voluntarily evacuate for several hours.
