On November 1, 1907, a White male guard, Ed Samuelson, was on duty at the
Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins when an inmate launched a desperate escape attempt.
The prisoner had a revolver and a stick of dynamite smuggled into the prion, and in the sudden violence that followed, the inmate shot the male guard, killing him inside the prison complex.
