On July 7, 2011, in Wheatland, Wyoming, 18-year-old Everett Eugene "BJ" Conant IV was fatally shot by his father, Everett E. Conant III. The tragic incident occurred at the family's mobile home, where Conant III also killed his two younger sons, Charles and Joseph, and his brother, Nacuma R. Conant. His wife, Suzette Conant, sustained gunshot wounds to her ankle and shoulder but survived.
