On October 5, 2014, 19-year-old Tyler Burns was fatally shot in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The incident occurred near Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, where Burns was among a group of teenagers. Sixteen-year-old Phillip Sam approached the group and, after an initial exchange, fired into the crowd, striking Burns. Witnesses reported that as Burns pleaded for his life, Sam shot him in the head at point-blank range.
