On March 20, 1996, Senior Patrol Officer Keith Braddock of the Watford City Police Department responded to a disturbance call at the local American Legion Club. Upon entering, he encountered a man armed with two rifles. A brief exchange of words ensued, and the armed individual opened fire, striking Officer Braddock. Despite being wounded, Officer Braddock returned fire, hitting the assailant in the leg.
