On the night of July 8, 2011, in Bismarck, North Dakota, a dedicated police sergeant, Steven Rickie Kenner, a 56-year-old Caucasian male, responded to a domestic disturbance call that would tragically be his last. The call, which came in at 10:38 p.m., reported a man threatening a woman with a knife on East Broadway Avenue. Kenner, a 32-year veteran of the Bismarck Police Department and a National Guard veteran, arrived at the scene with another officer to find the suspect seated in a van.
