Police Officer Henry H. Heard, aged 27, was fatally shot on October 20, 1923, while serving with the Dora Police Department in Alabama. The incident occurred when Officer Heard, his partner, and a civilian volunteer were investigating a suspected bootlegger. The civilian had volunteered to attempt to buy whiskey from the suspect so that the officers could make an arrest for bootlegging.
