On a tragic evening in Montgomery, Alabama, 36-year-old Louise Simmons Grice's life was violently cut short. The events of May 12, 1985, unfolded at her residence at 1325 Bellview Street, culminating in a brutal act of domestic violence that would leave two people dead.
That night, Robert James Grice, Louise's husband with whom she had a tumultuous relationship, arrived at the home armed with a shotgun. Inside, he found Louise in a back bedroom with a man named Grover Jarrett.
Robert Grice first shot and killed Jarrett, who was lying on the bed. A struggle then ensued between Grice and one of Louise's daughters, who bravely tried to intervene.
Louise fled from the bedroom during the altercation, but her husband pursued her into the front yard. There, he shot her in the head, ending her life. Police were summoned to the scene and quickly located and arrested Robert James Grice. Upon his arrest, he admitted to shooting both his wife and Grover Jarrett.
Robert James Grice was subsequently charged and convicted for the murders of Louise Grice and Grover Jarrett. Following the jury's recommendation, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals later upheld his conviction.
