In the winter of 1988, in Jefferson, Alabama, a sequence of events unfolded that would ultimately lead to the death of Leon Shaw, a 33-year-old man. On the afternoon of February 8th, Shaw drove to the home of Terry Dill. At the time, Shaw was serving a sentence at a Federal Work Release Center for a drug violation and was not supposed to be driving, though he was permitted to leave for his job at the Rose Boutique, a business he co-owned with his wife, Junatha Shaw.
