On July 20, 2007, 19-year-old Eulin Berg Matthews III, known as "J.R.," was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred within the city limits, contributing to the 94 homicides recorded in Birmingham that year.
Eulin was born on July 18, 1988, and had recently graduated from Fultondale High School in Birmingham. He was employed by Armstrong Piping in the city. Eulin had accepted Christ at the Shepherd Church of Christ in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he had family ties.
