Death by Force

On January 13, 2008, 36-year-old Anthony Edward Lett of Huntsville, Alabama, was fatally shot during a dispute following the death of Lonnie King at an illegal drag race on Republic Boulevard near Avenue W in Birmingham's Pratt community. Lett, one of the race organizers, was holding $20,000 in purse money when he was shot. Ladipo Chad Bethea of Gretna, Florida, was convicted of capital murder in May 2013 for Lett's death.
