On August 11, 2008, 17-year-old LaWanda Eileen Russell of Birmingham, Alabama, tragically lost her life to gun violence. A dedicated member of the Rising Star AME Zion Church in Powderly, LaWanda actively participated in the youth choir and praise dance team. She was also a student at Wenonah High School, where she was known for her vibrant personality and positive influence on her peers.
