In the autumn of 1993, the life of a 27-year-old Caucasian woman named Renee Bergeron came to a brutal and mysterious end in Theodore, Alabama. Of Creole descent, Renee was a native of Marrero, Louisiana, and the mother of a young daughter. In the years leading up to her death, she had moved to the Mobile, Alabama area, where she was known by the alias Maria Martinez.
