On July 6, 2013, in East Rockhill Township, Alabama, 59-year-old Mary Swierzewski was tragically killed in a murder-suicide orchestrated by her father, Thaddeus Swierzewski, aged 78. Mary, described as "mentally handicapped," was found deceased from a gunshot wound alongside her father, who had also died from a self-inflicted gunshot. The incident was discovered by a professional caregiver who had briefly left the residence to get food.
